Saint Joseph's University is an independent school of the Catholic and Jesuit tradition. Located in Lower Merion on Philadelphia's western border, this comprehensive Pennsylvania university was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1851. Since its inception, Saint Joseph's University has employed a strong liberal arts curriculum, committed to a rigorous standard of scholarship, inquiry and personal development. SJU's identity and approach to education is rooted in Jesuit and Catholic values and philosophy.

Saint Joseph's University has more than 75 undergraduate programs, most of which are conducted through its arts and sciences college and the Erivan K. Haub business school. The Pennsylvania university also boasts nearly 30 study abroad programs, over 45 graduate programs, and offers a doctorate of education in education leadership. Saint Joseph's University has more than 270 full-time faculty members and over 90 percent of those on the tenure track possess the highest degrees in their fields. In recognition of its academic achievement, Saint Joseph's University has been awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

The 65-acre campus contains 53 buildings and is situated in both the city and suburban regions of Lower Merion. With its home in two counties, Saint Joseph's University can offer students easy access to Philadelphia's bustling urban activity while simultaneously providing them with a secure and tranquil environment. A second, neighboring campus is currently being developed. SJU is home to 20 varsity sports teams and more than 30 intramural and recreational programs.
