The Salvation Academy is a public charity ministry that is focused on bringing hope and inspiration to disadvantaged people in the community. This Virginia school is able to follow this mission because of the support of contributors and sponsors. The Salvation Academy wants its clients to lead a healthy lifestyle, along with being educated and self-reliant.

Educators at Salvation Academy want to help meet the health care needs for the future. Located in Alexandria, near Washington, D.C., Salvation Academy serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, national origin, or gender.

The nursing education program gives students the chance to complete courses that will allow them to earn the nurse assistant certification (CAN), medical assistant (MA) certification, and the license practical nursing diploma (LPN). These programs will provide students with the ability to start their career in patient care. Students are encouraged to advance their degree at their own pace, on their own terms. Faculty and staff want to see students improve social conditions for disadvantaged people and society as a whole.

A few years ago, the Salvation Academy was able to acquire an existing nursing school, the National Healthcare Training Center. The Salvation Academy was able to take over the school and train approximately 200 nurse assistants and 200 practical nurses at no charge.

A nurse assistant program is an entry level program that introduces students to nurse education. Students focus on body mechanics, anatomy, safety, patient care, conflict management, bathing, infection control, bathing, and hygiene. The length of this program is 12 weeks. Once a student completes this program, this will give them the chance to qualify to the practical nursing program.

The medical assistant program is geared for health professionals who want to work in a variety of places, such as an ambulance, a physician's office, clinics, or group practices. They are also able to help perform administrative and clinical procedures.

The practical nursing program helps prepare students to participate in healthcare services. Once completed, students can apply for the NCLEX-PN Exam, which will lead to a state license as a practical nurse. The length of this program is about a year or six months. Once completed, students can enroll in the registered nursing program.

There's also the A+ Computer Repair Program that gives students a chance to learn about basic hardware components. It is focused on the concepts of main boards and memory modules. It gives students a chance to work with the Windows Operating Systems, in a practical and theoretical standpoint.
