The School of Automotive Machinists offers programs in block machining, cylinder head machining, CNC machining, and block and head machining combo. The program in block machining prepares students for careers as automotive machinists. Students are trained on an emphasis on the machining process with an in-depth education on theory of operation of the modern automotive engine as well as the effects of performance modifications. Students in the cylinder head machining program are trained to become cylinder head machinists. The program covers theory of operation and the cylinder head role in engine operation, and air flow characteristics and their effect on performance. The CNC machining program ensures students understand and can perform machining operations using computer numerically-controlled machining centers. The program consists of a combination of hands-on and classroom instruction. The primary focus of the program is to apply CNC machining techniques to better the performance of cylinder heads and engine blocks. The block and head machining combo program prepares students for careers as block and cylinder head machinists. The program emphasizes the machining process through education in theory of operation of the modern automotive engine as well as the role of the cylinder head to complete assembly.
