Howard College of Arts and Sciences provides general education courses to help students develop a wide range of knowledge and skills to enhance their chosen major. These courses build on the core of cultural perspectives, communication arts, Biblical perspectives, and concepts of fitness and health as students are introduced to specific disciplines. The general education courses are designed to strengthen the students' understanding of the human experience with the expectation that they will gain broad vision and independent thinking.

Howard College of Arts and Science departments include biology, MS in environmental management, chemistry and biochemistry, classics, communication studies, English, geography, history, journalism/mass communication, math/computer science, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, and world languages. Students are required to take a specific number of courses. Students are advised by the College Steering Committee and courses are approved by the Arts and Sciences Assembly.

Howard College of Arts and Science offers degrees in Biblical studies, biology, chemistry, classics, communication studies, computer science, engineering, engineering, English, environmental science, fine arts, French, geography, German, Greek, history, journalism and mass communication, Latin, mathematics, philosophy and religion, physics, political science, psychology, sociology, and Spanish.

Minors at Howard College of Arts and Science include applied geography, art, biology, chemistry, classics, English, communication studies, computer science, congregational studies, French, German, Greek, history, Japanese, journalism and mass communication, Latin, marine science, mathematics, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, religion, Russian, sociology, Spanish, traditional geography, world languages, and writing.

Interdisciplinary concentrations include biochemistry, congregational studies, environmental science/geographic information systems, international relations, language and world trade with specialties in French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish, and police administration.
