Samford University's Ida V. Moffett School of nursing was established in 1922 and recently celebrated 85 years as a leader in nursing education, practice and service. The nursing school is known as a center of excellence by the National League for Nursing. This recognition was given to the school of nursing for its efforts to "create environments that promote student learning and professional development." Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing is one of several schools in the nation to hold this designation.

Ida Moffett School of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate programs include a bachelor of science in nursing that helps students gain knowledge, critical thinking, and practice skills through courses in liberal arts and nursing. Graduates of this program can provide professional care in a variety of settings. The second degree bachelor of science option is an accelerated nursing program for those who currently hold a bachelor's degree in an area of study other than nursing.

Graduate programs include nurse anesthesia and doctor of nursing practice as well as tracks in programs leading to a master of science in nursing. These tracks include family nurse practitioner, nurse educator, nurse manager, nurse executive (joint MSN/MBA), post MSN certificates, RN to MSN, ASN or Diploma-APN to MSN, and BSN-APN to MSN.
