Christian college is a private Christian-based
liberal arts college. The mission of San Diego Christian College is to provide students a college education incorporating the Bible and God into each aspect of a student's life while shaping future Christian leaders.
Until 2005, when the school changed its name to more accurately describe its locale, San Diego Christian College was formerly known as
Christian Heritage College. The school was founded in the fall of 1970 by Dr. Tim F. LaHaye, Dr. Henry Morris and Dr. Art Peters out of concern for the need for a Christian based college on the west coast.
Today, San Diego Christian College offers Bachelor's degree programs in Aviation, Bible, Biology,
business, Communication, English, History, Kinesiology, Liberal Studies, Mathematics, Music, and Psychology. San Diego Christian College also offers two degree programs targeted at students who work full time:
business management and human development. The Institute for Creation Research, which was formerly a research division of the college and now is its own educational entity, offers Master's degree programs in Astro/Geophysics, Biology, Geology, and Science Education.
Approximately 50 percent of San Diego Christian College more than 400 students live on campus. There are five residence halls that are all equipped with high-speed Internet access.
In the summer of 2000, the San Diego Christian College Library merged with the Southern
California college Library to bring both campuses' students better resources. The library is also a part of the 21-member Southern California Theological Library Association, which allows graduate theological students to borrow from participating libraries.
Summer mission trips to the Mae Tung region of Thailand have become a tradition at San Diego Christian College. The mission teams have provided clean water and built a school. Future mission trip planners hope to build housing for teaching and medical staff, as well as constructing a medical clinic.
