The San Mateo County community college District serves over 40,000 students every year, and is comprised of three different California colleges: Canada College, the College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. As two-year institutions of higher learning, these community colleges provide students with the education they need whether they seek immediate employment or eventual transfer into a traditional bachelor's degree program.

Thanks to its member schools, the San Mateo County Community College District provides students with over 90 vocational-technical programs. From classes in automotive technology, allied health science, and business administration, to courses in medical billing and coding, emergency medical services, and network information technology, there's something for nearly anyone within the San Mateo County Community College District. These California community colleges also offer a wide array of certificate, transfer, and associate degree programs.

In fact, students of Skyline College and the College of San Mateo benefit from transfer agreements with such colleges as the University of California and California State University. Because of these agreements, students may complete the first two years of a bachelor's degree program at Skyline College and be guaranteed admission into a traditional four-year college before they even graduate.

Students who wish to attend a San Mateo County Community College District school do not have to submit an ACT or SAT score in order to gain admittance.

Thanks to Skyline College's concurrent enrollment program, high school students are able to enroll in, and receive credit for, college courses before they receive their diplomas.

The College of San Mateo has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
