Sandhills Community College

3395 Airport Road
Pinehurst, NC 28374

Chartered in 1963, Sandhills community college officially opened October 1, 1965, and was the first comprehensive (i.e., offering a college transfer degree) two-year North Carolina college. Sandhills Community College was originally located in downtown Southern Pines and moved to its present location in March 1966 and it was officially named in July of 1964.

In 1969, the Sandhills College Foundation was formed, the first of North Carolina colleges. Thanks to a generous donation by Mary Luman Meyer, Sandhills Community College's main campus consists of 240 acres located off of Airport Road and is comprised of eight instructional buildings, a student center, visitor's center for the gardens, maintenance facility, auditorium, and library. A gift of 10 acres from Mary and Wyatt Upchurch established the present Hoke Center location, which was dedicated on Oct. 2, 2001.

Sandhills treats its students, faculty, and staff fairly and stands behind the commitments that are stated or implied in its policy documents and promotional materials. The college demands academic work that is honest and rigorous and that meets the expectations of employers and baccalaureate-level institutions.
