Savannah College of Art and Design is a private school specializing in arts
education. The school has campuses in Savannah and
Atlanta, Georgia, as well as in Lacoste, in the south of France.
Savannah College of Art and Design was the first school to offer students in southeast Georgia an education in art and design. The school was founded three decades ago and since has gained a national and international reputation for a top design school.
The city of Savannah is a historic
American metropolis and Savannah College of Art and Design has become part of that history. One year after its founding, in 1979, the school purchased and renovated a structure built in 1892 that was used by the Savannah Volunteer Guard. Now named Poetter Hall for two of the college's founders, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Savannah College of Art and Design offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of
fine arts, a 5-year Master of Architecture, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Urban Design degrees. Undergraduate and graduate certificates are also available. There are more than 30 degree programs at the college.
Advanced undergraduate students with more than 120 credit hours, or graduate students with a minimum of 30 completed hours may apply for the study abroad program. Students may choose to attend classes in France, Germany, Italy or Great Britain, or they may choose one of the exchange programs with schools in New York,
Chicago or Los Angeles. Students must be at least 21 years old to apply.
Students may choose to live at one of the many residence halls or apartment buildings on campus or off campus. No matter if attending school in Savannah or Atlanta, both cities offer a wide variety of off-campus housing, as well as cultural and sporting events.
