Schilling-Douglas School of Hair Design was founded by Douglas David and James Schilling in 1977. The program prepares students for careers in the beauty industry, and upon graduation, students will be able to successfully complete the State of Delaware licensing examination as well as pursue an array of career options in Cosmetology arts and sciences and related fields.

Schilling-Douglas School of Hair Design offers programs in cosmetology, cosmetology refresher, cosmetology self improvement, cosmetology instructor, and Nail Technology. The 1,500-hour cosmetology program can be completed in 11-months for full-time students, and 19 months for part-time students. The cosmetology refresher program is 500 hours and can be completed in 18 weeks for full-time students and 28 weeks for part-time students.

The cosmetology self improvement program takes three months for full-time students and has unlimited attendance. Students can also enroll in the part-time program, which takes six months and has unlimited attendance. The cosmetology instructor program's length is based on the number of years a student is licensed and employed as a cosmetologist. For cosmetologists with more than two years experience, the program requires 250 hours. For cosmetologists with less than two years experience, the program takes 500 hours. The nail technology program is 125 hours for full-time students and takes four weeks to complete. Part-time students can complete the program in seven weeks.
