The School of Advertising Art was established by a graphic designer in 1983, classes began in 1984, and its first class graduated in 1986. The school's mission is to educate and prepare students for successful careers as professional graphic designers. Students develop artistic and time management skills as well as a professional work ethic.

School of Advertising Art offers a diploma and an associate degree program. The diploma program consists of 100 percent art assignments in the areas of graphic design, illustration, and computer graphics. These are required courses in which students learn design, drawing, illustration, typography, photography, and production skills. The diploma program is completed in six quarters (two academic years). The Associate Degree program includes the same courses with the addition of six required academic courses. These academic courses include English composition, history of art, history of advertising, marketing, copywriting, and public speaking. The Associate degree program is also completed in six quarters (two academic years).

School of Advertising Art has bachelor's degree affiliations, giving students the option to advance their education by earning a bachelor's degree without losing any of their credits earned. Upon graduating, they can earn a bachelor's degree at Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Art Institute of Atlanta, American Intercontinental University (London, England), and Art Institute of California.

  • The school offers Saturday morning art classes for high school students during the summer, fall, winter, and spring for five consecutive Saturdays. Students learn how to express themselves artistically through drawing, mixed media, and painting. The classes are open to all high school students. Selected talented students receive a $500 award towards their future education at the School of Advertising Art.


  • School of Advertising Art's students win more advertising and design student awards than other area colleges. These awards are from reputable organizations, including the Greater Dayton Advertising Association, CSCS: Columbus Society of Communicating Arts, AIGA: American Institute of Graphic Arts, Advertising Club of Cincinnati, and Step-Inside Design Magazine.
