Academy provides
education to amateur DJ's and enthusiast by giving them the equipment and curriculum needed to learn the
art of being a DJ as well as receive instruction from world famous DJ instructors. Scratch DJ Academy is headquartered in New York City with addition locations in
Los Angeles, and Miami. The academy was founded in 2002 by Rob Principe, Reg E. Gaines, and the late Jam Master Jay.
Scratch DJ Academy offers six- and 10-week courses for the beginner to advanced skill level. These courses are half lecture and lab to ensure students gain the highest level in DJ and music education, which includes mixing, blending, scratching, and beat juggling. Since the academy was established, students of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels have participated in courses at the academy. Many have traveled from many parts of the world to take course at Scratch including London, Tokyo, Sao Palo, Montreal, and other countries. Scratch's five levels of courses available are 101, 151, 1NT, 202, and 303.

The academy has no age requirement to take a class at Scratch. Students have ranged from age eight to 60 years old.
Scratch gives currents students free practice time during the week between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. For those who are not Scratch students, Scratch offers memberships. Membership allows non-students the opportunity to come in and practice on a set of turntables.
Class sizes range from 12 to 30 students with each class held by an instructor and teaching assistants, to ensure everyone receives hands-on instruction.
Graduates of Scratch DJ Academy receive certificates of completion at the end of the semester.
Private lessons and classes are available; private lessons range from $75 to $100; and classes range from $300-$500.
Students must pay full amount for course at the time of registering, due to the limited number of spots and the demand for each class. For those who can't pay the full amount at registration, a deposit can be paid to hold a spot in the class. The balance must be paid before the course's start date.
Scratch DJ Academy also sells professional equipment to students and non-students. They also offer special beginner to advanced equipment packages.
