Created as a two-year institution of higher learning in 1967, Shawnee community college has long been dedicated to serving the community and people of southern Illinois. (While its main campus is located in Ullin, this also has extension centers in Metropolis, Anna, Cairo, and East St. Louis.) The main campus is located on 153 acres of rolling hills and is home to top-notch buildings and facilities despite its rustic locale. At Shawnee Community College in Ullin, for example, students can find a 21-000 square-foot building that features both a biology and nursing laboratory, while the Caior campus has a computer lab and fitness center.

As part of its dedication to the student body, this Illinois college offers nearly 100 academic and career-training programs. From two-year associate degrees programs to certificates courses that require anywhere from weeks to a year, Shawnee Community College offers a wide variety of fields and disciplines. The also provides transfer programs that are directed towards helping students transfer to a four-year college or university.

Thanks to an alliance with Franklin University of Columbus, Shawnee Community College students are able to take the credits that they have earned at the community college and put them towards earning an online bachelor's degree from the university.
