For over two decades, the Shiatsu Massage School of California has been serving those who wish to gain knowledge of alternative medicines, specifically the practice of shiatsu massage. A type of acupressure, shiatsu is rooted in a traditional massage technique of China and is based on the Chinese principles of the five elements, as well as yin and yang.

Students of the Shiatsu massage school of California have a number of options when it comes to enrolling in a certified massage program. Ranging in difficulty, these programs prepare students to become a certified shiatsu-anma massage technician (beginner), certified shiatsu-anma massage therapist (intermediae), or a certified shiatsu-anma specialist (advanced). A student who completes these programs -- working their way from technician to specialist status -- earns a certified massage diploma. All together, these programs require approximately 500 hours -- completed in three to nine months -- of study and training.

Students who choose to study at the Shiatsu Massage School of California, will be happy to know that its founder, DoAnn Kaneko, started his career teaching shiatsu-anma workshops in 1976. (anma-doin is the massage technique out of which shiatsu was born.)

Courses at the Shiatsu Massage School of California cover such topics as anma-doin, shiatsu-anma, functional anatomy, physical and orthopedic evaluation, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and matters concerning legal, ethical, business, and hygiene issues.

Over the years, the Shiatsu Massage School of California has had thousands of students graduate as practioners of shiatsu-anma.

Aspiring students who do not wish to become professionals may instead enroll in whatever courses interest them. Classes are offered at night and on the weekends, in addition to during the weekday.
