Rooted in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, Siena College is a private, liberal arts college located on a 166-acre campus close to Albany in Loudonville, New York. Due to the proximity to the state capital of Albany, many students can choose to work and do internships in government.

The Franciscan Friars of the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus founded the school on about 40 acres of farmland in 1937. When the school opened though, more than twice the expected number of students began their college education at Siena.

Through the years, Siena College has continued to flourish. In the past few years, the school has added a creative arts, biochemistry, and computational Science majors, as well as expanding the number of academic minors. The school has more than 25 degree programs in three schools: liberal arts, science and business. The school also offers more than 45 minor and certificate programs. Admission to Siena College is very academically competitive. More than 75 percent of the freshman class in 2007 graduated at the top third of their high school classes and their average SAT score was 1175.

Siena College offers state-of-the-art facilities. The 71,000-square-foot J. Spencer and Patricia Standish Library was built in 1999 and has room for 400,000 printed volumes. The $12 million Morrell Science Center opened in 2001. The Marcelle Athletic Center offers students the opportunity to stay fit by playing on racquetball or basketball courts, using the fitness center, walking or running on an indoor track or swimming.

Students may choose to live on campus, and more than 75 percent of the student body choose one of the seven residence halls, which offers both dorm style living and townhouse living for upperclassmen. The newest hall was constructed in 2001.
