160 Convent Avenue Room H-107
New York, NY 10031

For 30 years, The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical education has remained true to its mission: to increase access to medical and health training for inner-city youths, particularly underrepresented minorities, from the community. Sophie Davis aims to train primary care professionals who will practice in medically under-served communities of New York. The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education remains steadfast in its commitment to its original mission.

Headquartered at the City College, The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education offers a five-year program that integrates undergraduate education with the first two years of medical school. Sophie Davis students receive not only a foundation in the liberal arts, community health and social medicine but in the biomedical sciences as well. Students receive a B.S. from City College and then transfer to one of six cooperating medical schools for the third and fourth years of medical school training. Additionally, The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education graduates must sign a pledge to serve for two years as a primary care physician in an under-served area after they complete their residencies.

To ensure the future of our mission, The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education is focusing its efforts in three areas: revising its curriculum, increasing exposure to clinical experiences, and emphasizing good communication skills. The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education strives to make student success its top priority, both in the classroom and beyond. The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education believes that great futures can be attained by anyone with the grit and passion to learn.
