technical institute was a result of this growing demand. The school was originally a
Two-year school and a division of the Georgia
Institute of Technology. By the school's twenty-first anniversary, it had grown and expanded to offer bachelor degrees. As the college continued to grow and expand, its name was changed to the Southern College of Technology and finally, when it attained its university status in 1996, to Southern Polytechnic State University.
Southern Polytechnic State University enrolls over 4,000 students per year. Students may choose from a wide variety of degree programs in five schools: The School of Architecture, Civil
engineering Technology and
construction, The School of Computing and Software Engineering, The School of Engineering and Technology Management, The School of Arts and Science, Extended University.
Students may choose to live on campus at one of two residence halls: Howell Hall or Norton Hall. They may also choose to live in one of two apartment buildings on campus: University Commons or the University Courtyard. Due to the proximity of both Marietta and Atlanta, there is also a wealth of off-campus living options from which to choose.
