Southwest Texas Junior College is a comprehensive, public, two-year college serving eleven counties in southwest Texas. College programs and services provide accessible, affordable, high-quality post-secondary education that prepares students to enter the job market, transfer to senior colleges and universities, and pursue their professional and personal goals. Through its programs and services, Southwest Texas Junior College equitably provides higher education opportunities and supports the economic growth of the community.

This Southwest Texas College offers credit courses leading to Associate Degrees and certificates in technical fields and designed-to-transfer majors. The community college also provides professional and occupation development to individuals, businesses, industries, and government and health agencies. A variety of non-credit activities for personal enhancement are also available.

In addition, this Southwest Texas two-year college provides programs in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) which are designed to assist students in acquiring a General Education Diploma (GED). Faculty and staff members at Southwest Texas Junior College are committed to providing developmental programs and services to enrolled and prospective students to increase their chances for success and enhance their potential for personal, educational, and professional growth.

Southwest Texas Junior College has four campuses: Uvalde, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Crystal City.

Founded in 1946 on the site of the old Garner Field Air Force Training Base, the SWTJC Uvalde campus is the school's main campus.

Southwest Texas Junior College promotes the economic development of the region by providing work force training for new and expanding industries as well as for transfer of technology to developing businesses. The college also supports economic development agencies by assisting in the recruiting of businesses and industries to the area.

The Texas community college's Achieving the Dream program helps reduce drop out rates by tracking the progress of students as they move throughout classes to see where they are successful and where they are not. The school is also gathering new data to help them better understand what keeps students on our campus and what causes them to leave.
