Southwestern Oklahoma State University is a public university that is a member of the Oklahoma State system of higher education. It is governed by the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges and is one of only six state-supported universities. Established in 1901, the Oklahoma university offers associate, bachelor's, master's and doctorate programs on its two campuses. The main campus sits on 73 acres in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The branch campus is in Sayre, Oklahoma.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University offers a quality educational experience. Students on the Weatherford campus have a variety of programs to choose from, including industrial technology, special education, health science, music education and business administration. Those on the Sayre campus have the option to choose associate degree programs. Over 1,000 courses are offered at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

More than half of the faculty members at the Oklahoma university have doctorate degrees. There are over 210 full-time faculty members. Graduate assistants teach less than 10 courses.
