St. Francis College is a 150-year-old private,

Founded by a group of Franciscan Brothers in 1858, St. Francis College was established as the first private school in the diocese of Brooklyn. As with many Catholic schools established during this period in American history, St. Francis College was first established to educate the boys of the diocese and took students through
high school age. A quarter of a century later, St. Francis College was approved as a literary college and granted the permission to award diplomas and degrees.
Today, St. Francis College is co-educational and more than 2,100 students enroll per year at St. Francis College. Students primarily come from the working-class neighborhoods of Brooklyn and surrounding areas in New York, but the school also educates students from more than 80 foreign countries.

Among the core curriculum at St. Francis College is a required 1-credit course that teaches time and stress management, as well as how to choose a major. Students can choose from one of more than 70 programs and majors in 19 departments at St. Francis College.
St. Francis College is a member of the College Consortium for International studies and students who are interested in studying in a different culture can apply for year or semester studies in Paris, Rome, Madrid, Prague, Costa Rica, Australia or a semester at sea. Additionally, two students every year are selected to attend a free 10-day Franciscan pilgrimage to Italy.
Most of St. Francis College's students are local and on-campus living is not an option. However, for students traveling into Brooklyn from other areas or other countries, the city of New York offers an infinite number of housing opportunities.
