Saint Mary's College of California is a private, Catholic Lasallian
liberal arts school grounded in the tradition of Saint John Baptist de la Salle, founder of the
Christian Brothers and the patron saint of teachers. The Christian Brothers are the oldest order in the Catholic church dedicated exclusively to teaching. Saint Mary's College of California was founded in 1863.
The Lasallian tradition is based upon five principles: faith in the presence of God, concern for the poor and social justice, quality education, inclusive community and respect for all. The Lasallian tradition is shared worldwide by students, Christian Brothers and others in 82 countries.
Over 3,900 students each enroll each year seeking a degree in one of 35 majors including
Accounting, anthropology, performing arts, math and computer science, politics, theology and religious studies.
There are three undergraduate schools: Liberal Arts, Sciences and Economics and
business Administration. Master degrees include Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Leadership, Master of Education, Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Master of
business Administration, Executive Master of
business Administration, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
Saint Mary's College of California is located on a 420-acre campus in Morage, Calif., just 20 miles east of San Francisco, allowing students the opportunity to enjoy the arts and cultural benefits of a major northern California city. There is also plenty of opportunity for activity on the Saint Mary's College of California campus. The Hearst Art Gallery on campus features works from world-renowned artists and has many collections to view.
