When State Fair community college was founded in 1968, when the school's 436 students and 18 faculty members occupied a single facility that was affectionately dubbed "Plywood U." Since then the school has grown to encompass 11 buildings that span across nearly 129 acres, and it currently educates -- as of the autumn of 2004 -- over 3,000 students throughout its various campus sites. These students attend State Fair Community College for the variety of opportunities that it holds.

As an accredited two-year institution, State Fair Community Colleges is able to award associate degrees to eligible students. From agriculture, business management, dental hygiene, and marine technology, to web development, early childhood development, accounting, and construction technology, there's a program to suit nearly anyone. The school also offers professional certificate programs, an associate of arts degree program that allows students to easily transfer their credits to a traditional four-year college or university.

This Missouri school not only offers a main campus in Sedalia, but campus locations in Boonville, Carrollton, Clinton, Marshall, Osage Beach, Versailles, Warsaw, and Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster.

State Fair Community College has been accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Individual programs have also been accredited by various institutions. For example, the automotive program is accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), while the Computer Aided Drafting Technology, Industrial Technology, and Machine Tool Technology Programs have been accredited by the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT).
