With campuses in Fairfield and Piscataway, New Jersey, the StenoTech Career Institute offers students training in information reporting and transcription. The accredited institute offers day and evening classes and students can attend full-time or part-time.
Students who attend either one of the StenoTech Career Institute's campuses can study court and conference reporting, scopist
court reporting or
medical transcription. In the court and conference reporting program, students can focus their study on court and deposition reporting, broadcast captioning, communication access real-time translation or web casting.
Students interested in becoming a scopist learn stenotype theory, scoping techniques, keyboarding, document processing, grammar,
Court Reporting English, vocabulary,
medical and legal terminology, proofreading and editing skills, and computer applications.
The medical transcription program trains students to become medical transcriptionists or specialists in medical text entry.
While an average program completion time at the StenoTech Career Institute is roughly two and one-half years (or 31.5 months), students can work at their own pace after the first nine months of training. Students receive a diploma once they have completed 4,500 clock hours of learning and have a minimum grand point average of 2.0.
