Founded by the same congregation that established the University of Notre Dame, Stonehill College is a private, Catholic undergraduate liberal arts college located just 22 miles south of Boston in Easton, Massachusetts. Stonehill College was established in 1948 with a mission to help students develop the skills necessary to feel empathy for those less fortunate or those who have been discriminated against. Stonehill College is a college of arts and sciences and pre-professional programs.

Community service is a major part of the experience at Stonehill College. More than 70 percent of students entering Stonehill College as freshmen have already participated in community service programs while in high school. Stonehill College sponsors three community service programs: Into the Streets Program, the H.O.P.E. program and the Center for Non-profit Management. In addition, students at Stonehill College have the opportunity to participate in choir and the campus ministry.

The application process is rather competitive. In 2007, more than 5,700 students applied for just 610 first year student openings. Stonehill College offers an average of more than 300 courses each semester to its more than 2,300 students, allowing students the opportunity to fulfill requirements for one of the more than 30-degree programs. In addition, Stonehill College offers nearly 40 minors in which students can complete a double major. Stonehill College was one of only eight Catholic Colleges named as U.S. News and World Report's one of America's Best Colleges in 2008.

Internships, research and study abroad programs are available to Stonehill College students to fit their individual education plans. Students may choose from Austria, Australia, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica or more than 20 more countries.

Due to its proximity to Boston, campus life includes shuttles that run to the shopping areas and to the Boston T. The 375-acre campus is located on the former estate of Frederick Lathrop Ames and among the more than 25 buildings, is his former mansion. Students may not only choose to live on campus, if they wish to live in a residence dorm, they are guaranteed occupancy for all four years.
