SUNY Cobleskill is part of
The State University of New York 64-public college system. The State University of New York, also known as
SUNY is the largest university system in the United States. SUNY Cobleskill was established in 1917 as an agricultural and technology college. Later, it incorporated a teacher education program, which was later transferred to the state teaching colleges. When the SUNY system was created, SUNY Cobleskill was one of the original schools. It earned a State University Agricultural and Technological College designation. The school's name was changed in the 1980s to the State University of
New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill to more accurately reflect its new emphasis on
Business and Technology, as well as agriculture.
Today, SUNY Cobleskill's agriculture students can study on the working farm located on campus, study in labs or work in one of the computerized greenhouses. SUNY Cobleskill also offers a wide variety of other degree and certificate programs to its more than 2,500 students.
Culinary Arts, environmental and nature resources, hospitality services and early childhood development are just a few of the other career preparation programs at the college. There are a half dozen Bachelor's Degree programs and nine Associate of Arts programs at SUNY Cobleskill.
Students at SUNY Cobleskill have a wide variety of activities from which to choose on campus. An equestrian center and ski lodge are just two of the amenities. Students may choose to live at one of the ten residence halls on campus and may also choose one of the following specialty housing concepts: First Year Experience, Sophomore Experience, Cobleskill Traditional, and Upper Class Living/Learning. More than 1,500 of the total student population live on campus.
Established in 1948, the state of New York was the last of the then 48 states to officially establish a university system. The State University of New York system has campuses all over the state, making it one of the most culturally, regionally and academic diverse systems in the country. The State University of New York colleges offers more than 7,600 degree and certificate programs including short-term vocational/technical courses, certificate programs, Associate, Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree programs.

The SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers claim a variety of varsity sports teams, including baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
The Biowaste-to-Energy Center at SUNY Cobleskill studies renewable energy utilizing biowaste, which is supplied by students living on campus, as well as the 400 head of livestock living on the campus farm.
SUNY Cobleskill's Study Abroad Program allows students to study in Egypt, Costa Rica, Turkey, Japan and China.
