SUNY is the largest university system in the United States. Located in the village of Geneseo, New York, State University of New York Geneseo was one of the state's original "normal" schools, so named for a teaching method in France. Established as a normal school by the state legislature in 1867, the school welcomed its first students four years later. State University of New York Geneseo is also one of the founding members into the
SUNY system.
The State University of New York Geneseo is one of 13 universities or four-year colleges in the SUNY system. Ranked by U.S. News and World Report as second among colleges in the north, State University of New York Geneseo is considered to be SUNY's Honor College. The State University of New York Geneseo offers more than 55 Bachelor's degree programs and three Master's degree programs.
Students at the State University of New York Geneseo can choose to live on campus in one of the 15 residence halls or in one of the townhouses on campus. Students interested in studying abroad may choose from over 20 countries for short programs and more than 15 countries to study for a semester or a year. The school also offers dual degree programs for students in three of those countries.
Established in 1948, the state of New York was the last of the then 48 states to officially establish a university system. The State University of New York system has campuses all over the state, making it one of the most culturally, regionally and academic diverse systems in the country. The State University of New York colleges offers more than 7,600 degree and
certificate programs including short-term vocational/technical courses, certificate programs, Associate, Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree programs.
