Institute of Technology is the newest member of
The State University of New York 64-public college system. The State University of New York, also known as
SUNY is the largest university system in the United States.
The State University of
New York Institute of Technology, or SUNYIT, is the only institute of technology in the state's university system. Established in 1966, the college held classes in temporary locations until the first buildings of the campus were completed in the 1980s. A multi-million dollar renovation of Kunsela Hall, the first building constructed, was completed in 2007 and several other new buildings are being planned.
More than 2,800 students attend State University of New York Institute of Technology each year in one of the four schools: Arts and Sciences, ISET, Business,
nursing and Health Systems. The State University of New York Institute of Technology offers more than 20 Bachelor's degree programs including: accounting, civil
engineering technology, computer and information science, criminal justice, sociology, nursing, psychology, finance, general studies and industrial engineering technology.
State University of New York Institute of Technology also offers a dozen Master's degree programs, two Master's of Business Administration degrees and five certificates in advanced studies.
Students at State University of New York Institute of Technology who live in one of the two-townhouse style residence halls on campus, seem to enjoy campus life as students routinely rank their campus life experience as "excellent" in surveys. Students have easy access to campus facilities including the newly constructed Cayan Library.
Established in 1948, the state of New York was the last of the then 48 states to officially establish a university system. The State University of New York system has campuses all over the state, making it one of the most culturally, regionally and academic diverse systems in the country.
