Maritime College is a four-year institution located on 55-acres of waterfront in Throggs Neck, New York and is also a member of
The State University of New York 64-public college system. The State University of New York, also known as
SUNY is the largest university system in the United States.
Situated on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Front peninsula, the Maritime College was the first maritime school in U.S. history. A majority of the more than 1,200 students at the Maritime College are a part of the Regiment of Cadets.
SUNY's Maritime College offers a wide variety of Bachelor's degree programs in
engineering,
business administration, marine environmental science, humanities and naval architecture. Maritime College also offers an
associate degree in marine technology and a Master's degree in international transportation management.
To compliment their classroom experience, students at Maritime College spend their summers traveling the world on the school's Empire State VI, the official training ship for the Maritime College. The 565-foot ship takes students on a world tour during the Summer Sea Term, providing them invaluable lessons in more than a dozen other cultures, as well as providing hands-on ship training by an experienced staff. A new ship is also being planned to help accommodate the school's growth.
Although not required, more than 90 percent of Maritime College's students live on campus.
Established in 1948, the state of New York was the last of the then 48 states to officially establish a university system. The State University of New York system has campuses all over the state, making it one of the most culturally, regionally and academic diverse systems in the country. The State University of New York colleges offers more than 7,600 degree and certificate programs including short-term vocational/technical courses, certificate programs, Associate, Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree programs

There are 23 varsity intercollegiate sports teams at Maritime College that compete in NCAA Division III. Sports teams include: baseball, basketball, crew, cross-country, football, lacrosse, rifle, rugby, sailing, soccer, swimming and volleyball.
