Founded as the state college system's cultural gem by Governor Nelson Rockefeller in 1967, The State University of New York Purchase College is a member of the State University of New York 64-public college system. It is also one of the 13 arts and science schools in that system. The State University of New York, also known as SUNY is the largest university system in the United States. Located in Purchase, New York, the State University of New York Purchase College draws students from around the state - and around the world.

Ranked as one of "The Best 361 Colleges" by the Princeton Review, as well as one of the best 151 by the Review's Northeastern colleges, the State University of New York Purchase College enrolls over 4,000 students per year. The State University of New York Purchase College offers degree programs in three schools: liberal arts and Sciences, School of the Arts and Continuing Education. Students who wish to study overseas, may choose programs in France, China, Itlay, Spain, Turkey and Mexico.

Students may choose to live on the 550-acre campus, which is located in Westchester County, just 35 miles from New York City. The campus is home to The Neuberger Museum of Art, the 10th largest museum in the U.S. The Neuberger Museum of Art is a teaching museum and a premier museum in the region for modern, contemporary and African art with more than 7,000 items in its permanent collection. The Performing Arts Center on campus is also an important part of the college community and region. The center hosts more than 200,000 visitors each year in its four-theater complex.

Established in 1948, the State of New York was the last of the then 48 states to officially establish a university system. The State University of New York system has campuses all over the state, making it one of the most culturally, regionally and academic diverse systems in the country. The State University of New York colleges offers more than 7,600 degree and certificate programs including short-term vocational/technical courses, certificate programs, Associate, Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree programs.
