Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Talladega, Alabama, Talladega College is a private four-year
liberal arts based college with a long history as colorful as the town in which it resides. Founded by two former slaves in 1865, the school was first established as a school for former slaves. The school was chartered as a college in 1869 but continued as an elementary through
high school. Talladega College awarded the first Bachelor's Degrees in 1895. Talladega College is associated with the United Church of Christ.
Today, Talladega College is one of the nation's top colleges for undergraduate programs in mathematics and science, according to Peterson's Guide, a company that produces college guidebooks. The college also ranks second in the nation for students who go on to complete a Doctorate Degree. Approximately 350 students enroll at Talladega College each year. Talladega College offers 16 majors in four schools:
business and Administration, Humanities and Fine Arts, Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Social Sciences and Education. The degree programs include:
business administration, public administration, English history, English, history, fine arts, music performance, mass media studies, French, Spanish, African American studies, biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, psychology, social work, sociology and education.
Students may choose to live on campus in one of the three residence halls for women or the hall for men. Talladega College's campus is located in a historic district of the city of Talladega. In addition to having convenient access to the city and all it has to offer, Talladega College is just 25 miles south of Anniston; 50 miles east of Birmingham; 85 miles north of Montgomery and 50 miles west of Atlanta.

The school was established on the land and buildings formerly owned by the Baptist Academy, a school built for white students by slave labor. Included in that labor were William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, two of Talladega College's founders. Swayne Hall is now a national historic site.
There are 30 full-time instructors at Talladega College and the student to teacher ratio is 12:1. Talladega College attracts the top 5 percent of high school students in the country, - accepting those who earned a 3.0 in high school or above. More than 80 percent of Talladega College's students pursue advance degrees after finishing their Bachelor's Degrees at Talladega College.
More than 95 percent of all the students at Talladega College receive some form of financial aid.
Talladega College competes in the State Collegiate Athletic Association. Varsity sports teams include: volleyball, baseball, golf and basketball.
