Texarkana College was formed in 1927, as a branch of the Texarkana Independent School District. Its first building was located at the corner of 16th and Pine Streets, and contained classrooms, laboratories, and a gymnasium, the latter two of which were used by both the college and the high school.

Texarkana College is a public, co-ed, community college. The school is regionally accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The college grants Associate Degrees. Beyond degree programs, there are special learning opportunities like cross-registration, distance learning, internships, and combining liberal arts with career education.

The school boasts top-flight technology offerings, with 500 work stations, available in campus libraries and computer centers. The dorms are wired for high speed internet connections.

Staff and faculty are committed to the student body, and the administration offers scholarship opportunities to help learners get the chance to earn a degree. One such opportunity is the school's Rising Star Scholarship, a full tuition and fee scholarship for academic or vocational classes for the freshman and sophomore years.
