At Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG), the ocean is your classroom, literally. Students at the by-the-sea school study ocean-oriented academic programs in transportation, science, engineering, business, and liberal arts. The Gulf of Mexico and Galveston Bay border the Island campus, which means that's where students do their research and public service, as well as where most campus activities take place. Texas A&M University at Galveston is also home to the Texas Maritime Academy, which is one of five seacoast maritime academies in the U.S. that prepares graduates for a future in the American Merchant Marines.
Quick Facts:
  • U.S. News and World Report lists TAMUG's engineering program as being among the top 50 in the United States.
Ocean voyages, sailing in Galveston Bay, beachfront experiments, and independent studies complement the rigorous classroom experience at the island campus.

  • The quality of instruction has consistently scored a high national ranking, in both the Gourman Report, and by U.S. News and World Report, which ranks TAMUG among the best small liberal arts and sciences colleges west of the Mississippi River.
  • Time Magazine's Princeton Review lists TAMUG as among the top 500 colleges in the U.S. Only 3 other public colleges in Texas are included.
