Once students have completed the first semester of fundamental massage therapy study, they can move on to advanced study and train to become clinical massage therapists. This curriculum includes 90 hours of anatomy, physiology and pathology study, as well as an overview of body work theory, muscle anatomy and pathology, palpitation and assessment techniques, treatment protocols and corrective exercises. An additional 30 hours are spent in a clinical massage internship that gives students the opportunity to assess and treat clients. The CMT course at Texas Healing Arts Institute features a high degree of student-instructor interaction and prepares student to become nationally certified massage therapists. The school also offers shorter programs such as a 36-hour course in traditional Thai body massage that is conducted over two consecutive weekends.
