The Curtis Institute of Music awards Bachelor of Music, Master of Music in Opera, Professional Studies Certificates in Opera, and diplomas. Major departments at the
Philadelphia school include Composition, Conducting, Keyboard Instruments, Orchestral Instruments, and Vocal Studies.
Under the philosophy that students "learn most by doing," Curtis annually presents more than 130 public performances in the Philadelphia region.
The Curtis Institute of Music is operated under a charter granted by the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania. It is included in the list of Colleges and Universities in Pennsylvania Approved by the State Council of
education for the Granting of Degrees. Additionally, Curtis is a fully accredited member of the National
associate of Schools of Music.
Curtis' mission is to train exceptionally gifted young musicians for careers and performing artists on the highest professional level. The Curtis Institute of Music is widely considered one of the world's leading conservatories.

Enrollment is kept very limited (currently under 200), with just enough students to complete the orchestra and opera departments, plus a small number of keyboard, composition, and conducting students.
