Culinary Arts, hotel management, pastry arts and restaurant management. Founded in 1974, The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College was one of the first in the country to offer a major that focused on fine dining restaurants.
Students at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College learn about all aspects of
business and management, and come away with comprehensive knowledge of the
culinary arts, sanitation, nutrition, accounting, marketing, purchasing, supervision and human resources - skills they need to pursue successful careers in restaurants, pasty shops, hotels and more. Culinary arts students, for example, learn about recipe development, menu planning, kitchen management, wine selection and dining room service. Graduates in all majors are prepared for supervisory positions in their chosen field.
On-campus resources at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College are extensive. In addition to a number of working restaurants, the college's resource center features computer labs and a library with industry-related books and magazines. Restaurant School at Walnut Hill students live in Victorian mansions that include charming architectural features such as fireplaces and bay windows, kitchens and bedrooms with TVs, VCRs and cable TV. All residence halls are located close to The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College's main campus in central Philadelphia, not far from the Center City and Chinatown neighborhoods.
But it's not all hard work at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College. Every day, the whole campus enjoys Student Success Hour. During this a one-hour break, students might participate in activities such as a chocolate tasting or meet a celebrity from the Food Network. Student activities include the book club, brewing club, cheese club, diversity club, pastry club and the Italian club. On-campus events include German Octoberfest, Mardi Gras, Spring Carnival, Convocation, Student Success Fair, Friends and Family Night and more.
