The Sage Colleges is a consortium of private colleges located throughout New York State. The colleges are comprised of Russell Sage College, an undergraduate all women's college in Troy; Sage College of Albany, a co-educational undergraduate college and Sage Graduate School, which offers Master's degrees and doctorate degrees on both campuses.

Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage founded Russell Sage College in 1916. Though financed by funds left to her by her late husband and named in her late husband's name, Sage was active in the women's suffrage movement and she wanted to offer women an education in preparation to become financially independent through preparing them for careers. In 1942, during World War II, an emergency men's division was created. In 1949, the school in Albany opened, offering Associate, Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. In 1995, Sage College of Albany and the Sage Graduate School officially became entities of their own, creating the consortium that is known today as Sage. At The Sage Colleges, students have the opportunity to use the resources of two college campuses, as well as to further prepare for career opportunities through internships, service learning opportunities, co-ops, practicums and student teaching.

Ranked in the top tier of U.S. News and World Report's "America's Best Colleges," Russell Sage College offers over 30 Bachelor Degree programs. Included among the majors: biology, pre-medical, dental and veterinary, communications, creative art therapy, musical theater and theater, criminal justice, sociology and nutrition science. The new program offered in health science is a perfect marriage if a student wants to continue their education in the graduate school's occupational or physical therapy programs. Full-time students are required to live on campus in one of the residence halls.

Sage College of Albany offers 13 majors: applied biology, clinical biology, business management, information design, physical education, creative studies, interdisciplinary studies, law and society, public affairs, public policy, business administration, computer information systems, web development and fine arts.
