Various CUNY Campuses

A dynamic and unique program at The City University of New York (CUNY), The Teacher Academy is a highly-selective baccalaureate program designed to prepare excellent students in mathematics and science to teach in New York City public schools.

The Teacher Academy is located on nine CUNY campuses: Brooklyn College, The City College, College of Staten Island, Hunter College, Lehman College, Queens College, York College, Borough of Manhattan Community College and Hostos Community College. The Teacher Academy prides itself on preparing the next generation of outstanding teachers who inspire high levels of student achievement as well as students' interest in mathematics and science.

With its innovative approach to education, The Teacher Academy sets itself above the rest. Teacher Academy students receive a strong grounding in liberal arts, a rigorous program in mathematics and science and preparation to teach using a model similar to a medical clinical internship. Teacher Academy students begin working in host schools in their first year. Additionally, Teacher Academy students get to work within a community, understanding what makes great teaching, what motivates students, what is happening in the schools, and how students change over time. Also, Teacher Academy students are challenged to master their major field whether mathematics or science. An excellent liberal arts and sciences program, Teacher Academy students are educated to reach their full potential and help their own students do the same.

Students at The Teacher Academy are able to experience a college within a college community. Teacher Academy students get to learn about teaching first-hand, work alongside expert faculty and researchers, and join a community of life-long learners and teachers. The Teacher Academy aims to create tomorrow's successful leaders, today.
