The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson is the health sciences campus of the University of Mississippi. The medical Center was officially established in 1955 but its beginnings date back to 1903 when a two-year medical school was established on the main campus of the University in Oxford.

UMC's academic programs provide rigorous training for physicians, dentists, nurses, and other health science professionals. The Medical Center's School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences offers Master's and Ph.D. degrees in the biomedical sciences, clinical health sciences and in the nursing sciences. UMC is also home to the University Hospital and Clinics, an estimated 722-bed tertiary care facility providing approximately 27,000 inpatient visits and more than 418,000 outpatient and emergency visits each year.

Since Mississippi is a very diverse state, UMC has a tradition of actively recruiting applicants from a variety of backgrounds. The Medical Center also regularly assesses itself by using internal and external measurement tools, to make sure that the institution's faculty and academic programs are successful and effective in training health professionals, patient care, research, continuing education and outreach.
