Thomas University
1501 Millpond Road
Thomasville, GA 31792
Located 35 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida, Thomas University is a private four-year college serving the educational needs of south Georgia and north Florida in Thomasville, Georgia. Thomasville is a true southern town of approximately 20,000 people. The area is characterized by still-working plantations and hunting reserves. Antebellum mansions, and moss-laden oak trees are accented by long leaf pines.
Thomas University is located on a portion of the former Birdwood Plantation, which was the winter home of Cameron Forbes, U.S.
Ambassador to Japan and Governor General of the Philippines. Established as Birdwood Junior College in 1950, the college graduated its first class in 1956. Twenty years later, the Primitive Baptists who had founded the school gave up ownership and the college was renamed Thomas County
community college. Changes once again visited the ownership of the school in 1979 when it became a non-sectarian, private college. Its name once again changed to
Thomas College and the first Bachelor's degrees were awarded in 1988. By the time university status was afforded to the university in 2000, Thomas University had been awarding Master's degrees for two years.
Today, students can earn Bachelor's degrees in
business, clinical lab science, biology, criminal justice, education, humanities, interdisciplinary studies,
nursing, psychology, social sciences and social work. Students wishing to earn a Master's degree can study
business administration, community counseling, nursing, rehab counseling teacher education or a MSN-MBA dual degree.
Students who wish to live in residence halls may do so in the Thomas University Residence Hall, which is located just over two miles from the main campus. Freshmen who are single and whose parents live more than 60 miles from campus are required to live in the residency hall.
