Established in 1998, Touchstone Healing Arts School of Massage offers a program that balances academic and practical work to give students a comprehensive understanding of massage therapy. Touchstone Healing Arts School of Massage strives to bring holistic health back to the individual through the art of massage.

Touchstone Healing Arts School of Massage offers a 650-hour Swedish massage practitioner training program, which provides a strong foundation in Therapeutic Massage, anatomy and physiology, clinical practice, professional development, and communication. Graduates of Touchstone's program qualify for the written National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and bodywork examination. Courses for the program include bodywork, practical massage, deep tissue massage, basic reflexology, introduction to traditional Chinese medicine, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, chair massage, student clinic, massage theory, anatomy and physiology, osteology, mycology and kinesiology, pathology, business practices, movement, and communication/self-exploration.

  • Touchstone Healing Arts School of Massage's Swedish massage practitioner training program runs from September through June, with classes meeting on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


  • For the 2008-2009 academic year, tuition is $7,250. Textbooks cost approximately $550 and a massage table can range from $400 to $700.


  • For admission to the program, prospective students must be at least 18 years old and should apply six months before the session begins to ensure space is available in the program. Applications are accepted until all classes are full.


  • Touchstone offers payment options. Vermont residents are eligible to apply for Vermont Student Assistance Corporation grants.


  • To graduate from Touchstone Healing Arts School of Massage, students must complete all program hours, receive three professional massage treatments during the course of the program, complete two massage tutorials with one of the instructors, give 30 documented massage sessions outside of class hours, offer 10 hours of community service in the form of 20-minute massage sessions through an externship, participate in student clinic and on-site chair massage, and complete all required out of class assignments.


  • Touchstone Healing Arts is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork as a continuing education approved provider and offers courses in introduction to Massage School workshop, introduction to reflexology, advanced reflexology, cranial work, advanced deep tissue training-level I, and advanced deep tissue training-level II.
