  • Troy University's tradition of teaching excellence dates to its founding on February 26, 1887 when an act of the Alabama Legislature established State Normal School, Troy University as an institution to train teachers for Alabama's schools. Joseph Macon Dill was the institution's first president. In 1893, the school was renamed Troy State Normal College.
  • Troy University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award the associate, bachelor's, master's and education specialist degrees.
