The
University of North Carolina School Of Dentistry has been the primary provider of dentists in North Carolina since 1954. UNC is North Carolina's only dental school, and
IT provides dental education, research, and services to the communities throughout the state of North Carolina.
The University of
North Carolina school of Dentistry offers advanced dental education, dentistry, dental hygiene, and dental assisting. Advanced dental education programs of study include
certificate programs in advanced education in general dentistry, general practice residency, and oral and maxillofacial surgery. UNC offers master's programs in endodontics, dental hygiene, operative dentistry, oral maxillofacial pathology, oral and maxillofacial radiology, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, and prosthodontics. The school also offers doctorate programs in oral biology and oral epidemiology as well as postdoctorate programs in clinical research and sensory disorders neuroscience. Students can also study in the one-year dental assisting program or pursue a certificate, bachelor's degree, or degree completion program in dental hygiene, or a doctorate in dental surgery (DDS).

The Dental Foundation of North Carolina was chartered by the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1950. The foundation is the school's non-profit organization. The foundation raises funds to support faculty, students, programs and facilities of the dentistry school. The foundation has more than $25 million and, annually, the foundation gives the school more than $1 million in scholarships, fellowships, professorships and programs.
The University of North Carolina School of Dentistry has numerous continuing education opportunities. Continuing education courses feature the latest advancements in science, so that dentists are aware of the new knowledge and innovations in the dentistry field. The school's North Carolina Academy for Advanced Clinical Dentistry provides courses that are hands-on, intensive, mastery level experiences for dental professionals. The Area Health Education Center's speakers and programs cover the latest dentistry topics.
