Founded in 1876, the U.S. Coast Guard
Academy in New London, Connecticut is a professional college educating future
United States Coast Guard officers. The smallest of the five U.S. federal military academies, the academy provides a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program, with a curriculum that emphasizes math, science and
engineering. USCGA is a fully resident military cadet campus on a waterfront campus.
Students at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy receive a full scholarship that covers tuition, room and board. Besides academics, physical fitness, character and leadership are also emphasized. The USCGA campus houses three athletic facilities, including a five-level structure with an indoor track and tennis courts.
Every Coast Guard cadet completes core studies in sciences and
liberal arts. By their sophomore year, USCGA cadets must apply for a major and be accepted into one of the 13 available programs of study. Upon graduation from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, cadets are required to make a five-year commitment to serve as a commissioned Coast Guard officer.
