Founded in 1845, the United States Naval Academy is located in Annapolis, Maryland, approximately 33 miles east of Washington, D.C. and 30 miles south of Baltimore. The United States Naval Academy offers a four-year program that provides naval and marine officers with a bachelor of science degree and the most current academic and professional training needed for assignments after graduation.

The core curriculum includes courses in engineering, science, mathematics, humanities and social science. Midshipmen can choose from among 21 major programs, including Arabic and ocean engineering. Eligible midshipmen can participate in challenging honors programs and even begin work on postgraduate degrees while still at the Naval Academy. Midshipmen are also offered opportunities to move out of the classroom to experience life at sea with operational fleets.

The United States Naval Academy's athletic program is an integral part of the overall curriculum of the midshipmen, where fitness, well-being, team play, cooperative effort, commitment and individual sacrifice are emphasized.

  • The United States Naval Academy staff and faculty are comprised of both military and civilian instructors.

  • Midshipmen are allotted $864.00 monthly, for laundry, barber, cobbler, activities fees, yearbook and other service charges.

  • Midshipmen are admitted from every state in the nation as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and Northern Marianas. International students from Guyana, Honduras, Ireland, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand have been admitted.

  • Some of the midshipmen have previously served as enlisted members of the Navy and Marine Corps.

  • The Navy pays for the tuition, room and board, and medical and dental care of Naval Academy midshipmen.

  • Midshipmen must be at least 17 years of age and must not have passed their 23rd birthday on July 1st of the year of admission.

  • Midshipmen must be a U.S. citizen at the time of enrollment, be unmarried, and not be pregnant or have an obligation to provide support to a dependent.
