The Universite de Montreal and its two affiliated schools--the Ecole
Polytechnique and the
HEC Montreal--were founded in 1878 and form the largest university in Quebec and the second largest in the country. More than 30 buildings, many designed in the Art Deco style, dot the Universite de Montreal campus, located on Mount Royal in Montreal. The Universite de Montreal's 13 faculties and 80 departments and schools serve more than 55,000 students from throughout the French-speaking world.
Most courses at the Universite de Montreal are taught in French, so non-francophone applicants are offered a unique French-immersion experience studying in Montreal. The city of Montreal offers plenty of cultural experiences with a vibrant music scene, theaters, art galleries, plenty of restaurants and boutiques and a population with roots from all over the world.
The Universite de Montreal is one of the foremost research institutions in
canada, allotting more than $400 million a year to research initiatives. The Universite de Montreal and its affiliated schools and hospitals employ about 2,300 professors and researchers. Students have access to a network of 18 libraries housing more than two and a half million books, two million audiovisual documents, 45,000 periodicals and 450 computer stations.
The Universite de Montreal's Faculty of Graduate and Post Graduate studies offers more than 150 programs, including health services administration, audiology, criminology, film studies, health
technology assessment, mathematic and computational finance, physiological optics, biomedical sciences, veterinary sciences and translation.
