In the early 1970s, scholars from the Universite du Quebec committed to making education more accessible for prospective students. The product of their thoughts and planning is known today as the Universite du Quebec: Tele-universite, which awards students bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees as well as certification in a number of programs. The Universite du Quebec: Tele-universite is known for its unique education programs and is the first institution of higher learning in Quebec to specialize in distance learning. Students are afforded the acclaimed education of the Universite du Quebec at Montreal from a distance learning perspective. Prospective students will be intrigued with the Universite's accolades and its position (along with the Universite du Quebec in Montreal) as the largest Francophone university. The Universite du Quebec: Tele-universite is devoted to teaching and research and students who attend the Universite will gain from their instructors' devotion and motivation.

The approximately 17,000 students who attend the Universite du Quebec: Tele-universite may choose from more than 20 areas of study. Some programs that the Universite offers include hotel and business, communications, education, economic development, science, psychology, sciences, mental health and technology education among many other disciplines.

Students at the Universite du Quebec: Tele-universite can interact with fellow classmates by getting involved with the student newspaper; the C @ fe, which is a forum designed for students to socialize with one another; and Depanne, which aims to provide answers for those students who have questions regarding the Universite du Quebec: Tele-universite software. Students may also engage themselves in The AETELUQ, which is the Universite du Quebec: Tele-universite's student union.
