The University College of Fraser Valley was founded in 1975 at the request of members of the Mission community who saw the need for an institution of higher
education in the region. Its three campuses--Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission--and two regional centers serve more than 10,000 students a year. The University College of Fraser Valley received a top ranking in the 2007 Globe and Mail's University Report Card, which touted UFV's high percentage of satisfied students, quality of education, impressive library, small class sizes and efficient course registration process.
University College of Fraser Valley students take advantage of 13 bachelor's degree programs, one applied master's degree program and well over 80
certificate and diploma programs in applied and academic subjects. Many students work towards a full degree gradually, starting with a one-year certificate or two-year diploma on the way to a bachelor's degree. Additionally, several programs at the University College of Fraser Valley feature co-op programs, which fuse academic study with paid work experience off-campus.
First-year students in the Faculty of Arts can take advantage of First Year Student Study Themes when making course selections. The easy-to-navigate system organizes classes from different disciplines into themed packages such as Climate Change and the Environment and Adventures in Cyberspace (
technology) and Trade.
