The Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences at
The University of Akron dates back to the University's founding year in 1870. Buchtel College offers Bachelor's and
Associate Degrees in programs such as
humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. In addition, the college offers seven doctoral programs in chemistry, counseling psychology,
engineering applied mathematics, history, psychology, sociology, and urban studies and public affairs.
Each division of the school's programs offers a wide array of majors and courses of study. Humanities includes the departments of Classical Studies, Anthropology and Archeology; English; Modern Languages; and Philosophy. The Natural Sciences includes the departments of Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Geology and Environment Science; Physics; Theoretical and Applied Mathematics; and Statistics. The Social Sciences includes the departments of Economics; Geography and Planning; History; Political Science; Psychology; Public Administration and Urban Studies (graduate only); and Sociology.
Buchtel College of Arts and Science offers largest, most diverse of
University of Akron's 10 degree-granting colleges. UA offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and areas of study at UA and more than 110 master's and doctoral programs. The University has more than 200 student groups, including sororities and fraternities, bands, gospel choir, theater guilds and athletics. The University operates two 15-week semesters starting in August and January with an optional summer semester. They offer on-campus housing, financial aid and many scholarship programs.
