Since 1913, The University of Akron's College of Engineering has offered seven undergraduate degrees, seven Master's degrees, and seven doctoral degrees in the field of engineering from its location in Northeast Ohio. Engineering programs include biomedical, chemical & biomolecular, civil, electrical and computer and mechanical concentrations. The city of Akron is home to several small and large industries and government laboratories that provide engineering students with many post-academic opportunities. The engineering program operates a curriculum under the Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The College of Engineering is part of the larger University of Akron, founded in 1870 as Buchtel College. There are more than 200 undergraduate majors and areas of study at UA and more than 110 Master's and doctoral programs. The University has more than 200 student groups, including sororities and fraternities, bands, gospel choir, theater guilds and athletics. The University operates two 15-week semesters starting in August and January with an optional summer semester. They offer on-campus housing, financial aid and many scholarship programs.

There are more than 66 full-time faculty within the College of Engineering including nationally and internationally known professors, researchers, and staff members. The program is centered in the UNiversity of Akron's Auburn Science and Engineering Center. With its alternating Co-op program, students include valuable work experience with their academic work through the program's relationships with private industry and government agencies all over Ohio and around the United States.
