Located in Mary E. Gladwin Hall on the UA campus, the College of nursing, offers professional nursing programs at the baccalaureate, Master's and doctoral levels. The college is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredits the baccalaureate and Master's program.

The Bachelor's degree curriculum focuses on a six-semester clinical sequence after completion of University and college prerequisite courses. Options are available for licensed practical nurses who want a baccalaureate degree in nursing, registered nurse advancement, graduate school preparation, Students gain practice in a variety of hands-on settings including hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation agencies, long-tern care facilities, community health agencies, mental health agencies, pediatric agencies and home care settings. After competition of prerequisites, the full-time program length is 2-1/2 years in length.

The Master's Program offers advanced practice options as a clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner, or nurse anesthetist and an advanced role option in nursing service administration. Postmasters certification programs and nursing educator and nursing management and business certifications are offered as well.

The Nursing College's Doctoral Program is a joint Ph.D. program with Kent State University, the first Joint Doctoral Program in Nursing in the state of Ohio. Students focus on developing and testing theories and models of science and practices in the field of nursing as well as the larger societal implications of health care policies and practices.

The College contains a state-of-the-art Learning Resource Center, including a computer laboratory exclusively for nursing students. The Center for Nursing within the College is closely linked to the Akron community and is used by faculty and students for community service, practice, education and research. The Nursing College has its own Student Affairs Office, which provides academic advising services to prospective and prenursing students. Nursing students are part of the general University of Akron population as a whole. UA offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and areas of study and more than 110 master's and doctoral programs. The University has more than 200 student groups, including sororities and fraternities, bands, gospel choir, theatre guilds and athletics. The University operates two 15-week semesters starting in August and January with an optional summer semester. They offer on-campus housing, financial aid and many scholarship programs.
